If there are no comments associated with a link, you will find the usual fare. I will only make editorial comments when I find something you should be sure to check out or if they include additional genealogical information (such as marriage, engagement, or birth announcements). If you find other sites, please use the Feedback form to let me know. Include: state, county, publication's name, and link. Don't use HTML codes as my email program interprets URLs.

Obituary Daily Times
If you are searching for descendants of a particular family group, this is the exchange group you want. Volunteers submit basic obituary data from their daily papers and you can search their database for your surnames. Then you can query the submitter for full details. This is a great site to find obits from those newspapers that don't publish online. Their new search engine offers Keyword, Soundex, and MetaPhone searches.

Pulaski Co.: Little Rock: Arkansas Democrat Gazette
To access their site you must register for the online version - it's free. They do charge for news articles found through the archive but it doesn't state whether there is a charge to view archived obituaries or other vital statistics.

The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas ONLINE

Only the current month's obituaries are linked to their main site (see first link below). In order to find the archived obituaries, you must drill down through their site. I have included links to those directories below to save you some time. Each file within these directories is a separate obituary.
Current Month
Click on Obituary link.
Previous Months: Archives
You'll find the directory for each month still online here. Some obituaries are grouped into their own subdirectory (usually with just the date or date range), but most just lump the obituary files in with the other archived articles. When you hit one of these directories, all you can do is look for a filename that could be a surname and try it.

Indiana

Lawrence Co.: Bedford On-Line
Not searchable, but has obits thru Jan '97. Also has complete contact info for area churches and organizations, including links in some cases, plus links to city, county, and state government agencies.

Kentucky

Central KY: Covington: Kentucky Post
On-line edition. Back issues thru March 97. Includes obituaries.
Central KY: Danville Advocate-Messenger
Danville Advocate-Messenger serves the Central Kentucky counties of Boyle, Lincoln, Mercer, Garrard and Casey. They have obituaries online, and a great History section, including genealogy, civil war, and lots of other goodies. This site is searchable and I found obituaries back to early 1996. They could go even further. Try it!

Buffalo: The Buffalo News
Seven days worth of obits online. Site is not searchable.

North Carolina

Mecklenburg Co.: The Charlotte Observer

North Dakota

Bismarck Tribune
Includes birth and death databases, linked from the "Shortcuts" pull-down on the top of the main page.

Pennsylvania

Meadville : The Meadville Tribune
In addition to births and deaths, they have a Genealogy column with queries. You can also submit queries. I am assuming that your queries must have a connection in PA, but that is not stated.

South Dakota

Aberdeen American News On-line
Obituaries are linked in the menu frame. You can search their archives for free, but if you want full text of the articles returned it will cost you. I tried the search and the results usually give you enough information for a citation.

Tennessee

Carter Co.: Elizabethton: Star Online
In addition to obituaries, you'll find marriages and wedding in this online site. Couldn't find a link to back issues.
Cumberland Co.: Crossville Chronicle
You'll find the Obits by following the News link. Also on that page is a link to their Archive, which has obits back to Sept 1996.

Some past issues online.

Rutherford Co.: Murfreesboro: Daily News Journal
Shelby Co.: Memphis: The Commercial Appeal
Williamson Co.: Franklin: The Review Appeal
This site is searchable, but it didn't work when I tried it. In addition to the usual fare, there is a Forum (newsgroup) where you can have topical discussions, and there is a Links page with links to government and civic sites. Site is loaded with Java, so take care.

Texas

Galveston County: Daily News
It looks like they keep about 10 days worth of obituaries online. Site doesn't appear to be searchable.

West Virginia

Charleston: Daily Mail
Search the obituaries from the front page or browse by date for your surnames. They also have a listing of funeral homes in the area, with phone numbers. Handy if you need to look for something too old to be online.
Charlston: Gazette
Archives include obituaries back to Jan 1997. Either browse them by date or use their site search by surname.

Wisconsin

Beloit: Daily News Archives
This newspaper prints death notices, not obituaries. It has a searchable data base that goes back a couple of years. It also has local hospital & court items which may provide information. NOTE: They use Alta Vista to search, which searches the entire web. In order to confine your search to their site you must include "Beloit Daily News" in your search criteria.
Green Bay: News-Chronicle
Includes birth, death, and divorce notices; however there is scant info on any (just name and date). Site is not searchable.
Kenosha County: Kenosha News
Includes very brief death notices. Has a search engine, and searching for "deaths" returns some very old articles (1918 for one) with very complete articles about citizens death circumstances. There aren't many, but they are definitely worthwhile!
La Crosse: Tribune
This newspaper has a daily obituary listing & a very limited archives (back to July 1998). The listing is not always maintained, so sometimes there are several days without any obituaries or news.
Madison: Madison Newspapers
Birth and death notices as well as obituaries.
Milwaukee: Journal Sentinel
This newspaper has a daily obituary & a searchable database. Keying on a name will get more than obituaries if the name appears in regular newspaper items.
